“If the garden is a life-and-death drama, I’m a garden person”, says Suzanne Brøgger from the countryside, where she has lived since her early 20ies. Even though she is a person of words and literature, Brøgger identifies with the farmers nearby: “I’ve felt a great affinity with the farmer because like an artist, he isn’t in control of the result. He is at the mercy of the elements. He must harvest at the exact right time. He must use his intuition. Now’s the time to harvest! But he’s not really in control of how good his harvest will be. Still, like with all good ideas, you sleep and you fertilize. You serve a greater cause, be it the bread or the word”.

Suzanne Brøgger was born in 1944. She is an award-winning Danish writer, novelist, poet, essayist, and journalist. Her debut “Deliver Us From Love” came in 1973 and was translated into more than 20 languages. She published more than 30 books in various genres. She received the lifelong artists’ grant from the Danish Arts Foundation in 1985.
